TRICK OR TREAT

In the classroom, Friday and Saturday programs are dedicated to academic enrichment sessions, which may include interactive activities and worksheets, as well out-of-classroom experiences such as museum and historical monument visits, school/college tours, team-building workshops, nutrition talks and other activities both within and beyond Pittsburgh's city lines.
Trick or Treat

On October 31st, SCS student-atheletes were given the opportunity to participate in the Mt. Lebanon Recreation's Annual Pumpkin Patch Parade 2015. Not only was it a chance to dress up, and bond with their peers, it was an opportunity to share our program with a new community. Student-athletes also had an opportunity to go trick-or treating, a tradition that many of them do not practice within the Hill District where they live.

Before the start of the parade, SCSquashers passed the extra time by getting some energy out with a few games of tag and "Wah", with volunteers, staff and Board Members, in the outer ends of the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The parade began at 11 a.m. and student-athletes excitedly marched through downtown down Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon, as crowds of families and children dressed in costumes gathered along the streets.  SCSquashers smiled, waved and interacted with the crowd as we matched together through the uptown business district to Washington Elementary School.

Following the parade, student-athletes were welcomed to go trick-or-treating at the businesses along Washington Road. Students received treats such as jumbo-candy bars, ice-cream and cookies, as well as handfuls of candy and sweets. As a group, we then went to the Mt. Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian Church's Trunk or Treat Event where SCSquashers ate hot dogs, popcorn and cider for lunch, did a second round of trick-or-treating, learned about various biblical stories, and recieved bibles at the conclusion of the event.
